Nicholas Klompas died at age 87 on Tuesday November 13 with his family around him.
Nicholas was born on an Alberta farm and made his way to designing jet engines, including the Orenda Iroquois for the Avro Arrow.
His loving spirit is carried on by his wife Bernice, his three children and five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at St Luke’s in Mechanicville NY on Tuesday November 20.

Mark and Linda,
Pleaes accept our sincere condolances on the loss of your father, Nicholas.
Ed and Nancy Malis
We have lost a remarkable man, the patriarch of the Klompas clan and I offer my heartfelt condolences to each of you.
Right now my memory is of both the first and last meetings with Mr. Klompas, Nic.
The first time I met him he was involved with fixing one of the BMW’s, it might even have been Kathy’s during our college days. The last time was this past summer when I brought my pup over to visit and although he would have loved to play with her he felt it more important that she go upstairs to spend some fun time with his wife.
And the times in between it was impossible not to be touched by his love for his family and his role as provider and the fact that he took special interest in each person in his presence.
His legacy is palpable and special.
My heart goes out to you all.
When I heard the sad news of Nick’s passing, the sun had just come over the hill, flooding the room with light.
Even though Nick was more of a scientist & an engineer, I sensed his connection to the light, to nature & earth, to the farm & the cosmos.
He was intensely committed to making the world a better place, (sometimes in ways that were over my head.) I know I only touched the surface of who he was, but I felt honored to know this generous, profound & beautiful spirit.
Nick had a lot of soul.
